Even though its been many years since my school days I can recall her shared happiness during her classes.Thank You Dr Betty Brett for sharing these special times & memories with your schoolchildren. Condolence From: Eric Hillier
Condolence: Dr. Betty Brett was my first teacher in the little one-room school at Main Point. I believe it was her first teaching position back in 1946. Many years our paths crossed again as we served together on committees of the United Church. In my opinion, she was a wonderful lady and a person of great faith who imparted her values to the many people who were privileged to be her students. My condolences to her family and friends.

Condolence: Dr. Brett was my professor and mentor at Memorial when I studied children's literature. As I reflect on the lasting impact she had on my life, I am reminded of a beutiful children's book by Barbara Cooney. Miss Rumphius features the life story of fictional Miss Alice Rumphius, a woman who sought a way to make the world more beautiful and found it in planting lupin seeds in the wild.She passed on her belief that you leave the world more beautiful to her namesake niece.
Dr. Brett planted the love of story and reading in her students and gave us the knowledge necessary to spread that love far and wide. My children, my nieces and nephews, my friends' children and my students over a thirty plus year teaching career all benefitted from the time I spent in her course. Good children's books are good literature, offering hope and endless possibilities, first to the child as listener and later as reader. Dr. Brett influenced a whole generation of teachers, who in turn influenced many others through exposure to wonderful, beautiful books. The many children who became avid readers are an important part of her legacy.
To Dr. Brett's family: My sincere condolences on the loss of such a lady. Hers was a life of accomplishment and enduring influence.

Condolence: Please accept our condolences. (Ishmael & Stella Baksh)
Though nothing can bring back the hour
Of splendour in the grass, of glory in the flower;
We will grieve not, rather find
In the primal sympathy
Strength in what remains behind;
In the primal sympathy
Which having been must ever be;
In the soothing thoughts that spring
Out of human suffering;
In the faith that looks at death,
In years that bring the philosophic mind

Condolence: I was a student of Dr.Betty Brett at MUN in the mid 1970s. She taught us the importance of GOOD QUALITY literature for children.Many books are timeless for children from infancy to adulthood. I have always made it a point to give books to my young friends.This habit I credit to Dr.Brett.I remember her sharing that when she attended MUN she had little finances and would switch her white blouse back to front so it seemed she could afford two blouses. As the years went on she was truly rich with her ability to educate, be a great friend and teach her students the true riches of life. Thank-you Condolences to her loved ones Rest peacefully

Condolence:
Family of the late Betty Brett

On behalf of my sister, Winnie, we wish to extend our sympathy on the passing of Betty.
Although Betty was widely known as a great educator and children’s author, we remember her as our gentle, warm and gracious cousin with the most beautiful smile and we were always happy to visit her at the family home when we visited “down home” during summer vacations.
To her family, may beautiful memories of a life well lived, help to keep her ever near and dear to your hearts. May she forever Rest In Peace.

Condolence: To Miss Brett's family and friends:
Please accept my deepest sympathy on her passing.
However she was a strong woman of faith so we rejoice in her being Promoted to Glory, as they say in the Salvation Army!
She was a great educator and I was lucky enough to be one of her students in 1966 and 1967 at Grand Falls Academy,where my Father,Vernon Hiscock, was the Principal.
He thought very highly of Betty Brett,
and said so many times.
In fact when we left Grand Falls in 1970, she wrote the wonderful tribute to my father in the Andopian,the year book at GFA.
Teachers of that era were a breed apart,and were very dedicated and truly professional.
Time has certainly proven that.
I remember her poetry classes particularly,and the great poets she introduced us to;in fact,many years later when I was working on my Masters in English,at Dalhousie, her intelligent sagacious analysis, and poignant insights came back to me in spades,
and I truly appreciated what she had taught me.
May she Rest in Perfect Peace and May the Love of Our Lord Jesus Christ and the Fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you and comfort you all in your Hour of Sorrow.
Sincerely,
G.Franklyn Hiscock.
