The earthly journey of Betty Marion Brett came to an end at Tiffany Village Retirement Living, St. John’s, NL. on Tuesday, September 25 at the age of 87 years.
Born at Barr’d Island, Fogo Island, a proud Newfoundlander, and a fisherman’s daughter. Predeceased by parents, William and Phoebe Brett; sisters: Livinia (Bert) Decker, Winnifred (Arthur) Ludlow, Patricia (Lloyd) Thornhill, brother-in-law Charles Freake, and nephews Paul Freake and William Thornhill.
Survived by sister Lucy Freake, brother Charles (Norma) Brett, seventeen nieces and nephews and numerous friends, including Linda Braine and Florence Sanna.
Betty was a beloved sister and aunt, a staunch friend, a highly respected educator specializing in children’s literature, a lover of literature and poetry and world traveler, she was a berry picker and a member of The United Church of Canada. She was a gracious hostess and had a wonderful sense of humor.
Visitation at Barrett’s Funeral Home, Hamilton Avenue, Thursday Sept. 27, 7 – 9 p.m., Friday Sept. 28, 2 - 4 and 7 – 9 p.m. Funeral service from St. James United Church, Elizabeth Avenue, on Saturday Sept. 29 at 2 p.m. with reception to follow at St. James Fellowship Room. At her request cremation has taken place and inurnment will follow at a later date.
