Nash Miller

1993 was a very good year. I was coaching 11 young men at Fogo Island Central High School and something historic was going to happen to that team in a gym at St. John’s. Jeffrey Penton was one of those young men, and when I heard that he had succumbed to the horrible cancer a feeling of sad frustration descended upon me. Then, pleasant memories of Jeff filled my head as I had many to draw from. I remember him as happy, respectful, positive, dedicated, funny, athletic, and hard working. I can still visualize him on the court dribbling the basketball on the run and pulling up for one of his patented picture perfect jump shots - swish! He loved the game, he loved his teammates and they in turn loved him. He was a credit to our school and I was blessed to have known him. To his wife Nadine and two daughters, his mom Madeline, and brother Peter, my wife Donna and I send our heartfelt condolences.
