We were fortunate to have spent a wonderful evening with your folks not so long ago in St. John's. It was a night of east coast hospitality shared with your family, your dad providing all the historical background to my many questions....while still managing to eat more lobster than any of us :)

Condolence From: Gloria (Hellier) Brown
Condolence: I just finished writing my book "From Outport to Airport: Growing up in Post-War Gander." Jim shared his memories of working at Transmitters in Gander and we spent an evening looking at old photos. Linda was most helpful! We were not related but as a child, I called them Uncle Jim and Aunt Ena. Their picture is preserved in my book. Lots of fond memories. Brownie and I send our sympathy.

Condolence: Jim was the first person my husband Bob met when he came to Gander in 1947. Next door at the Gander Inn was Dave Stoyles and he had a colored portrait of his sister, Ena. When Jim saw it, he was smitten. We all waited in anticipation for Ena's first visit. when Jim and Ena married, they lived across the hall from us in Building 132. Condolence: I am very sad to hear of Jim’s passing but I feel fortunate to have visited with he and Ena in November. Jim was one of my mentors. I found him to be possessed of high minded core values, with a deep sense of personal responsibility for his wife Ena, family, and his community. His spirit and compassion were an inspiration to all of us. I shall never forget his laugh and sense of humour. I always enjoyed our chats on the history and politics of Newfoundland. He always reminded me that there were many perspectives to complex issues. He was a wonderful friend! I will miss him.
