Condolence From: Wallace Gregory
Condolence: I got to know Bob while we were on the MUN wrestling during the early 1970's, and while he was completing his master's program. We would spend time in coach Denes Szvetko's office discussing human physiology and other esoteric topics. We would run in to each other at various events over the years and would often pick up conversations as if we had been in constant contact. He had the combination of a strong intellect, a sense of humour and social skills which made him an ideal teacher. Please accept my condolences, and my wish that you have nothing but positive memories of his time with us.

Condolence From: Frank O'Connor
Condolence: My sincere condolences to Bob's family. Such a shock to hear of his death. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this sorrowful time. I have known Bob since the late sixties, at the Marine Lab where he was a scuba diver, at Mun when he was on the faculty of Physical Education, and later when working at CNA. As noted by so many others he was a real gentleman, a fine example as a teacher and yes!, that smile! I shall remember him that way.

Condolence From: Gerri Walsh and Tracey Fleet
Condolence: Elizabeth, Hayley, Alex, Lauren, and Mom Smith – We have had the privilege of working with Bob for many years at CNA but, more importantly, we have been blessed with his friendship. The three of us have shared so much in that time – unbelievably funny moments, many lunches at our favourite Chinese restaurant (where we were often the last to leave), stories about our families, and worrisome moments too as Bob rode the rollercoaster of his illness. We always had each other’s backs in every situation. We will never forget him and the happiness he added to both of our lives. Friendship without self-interest is one of the rare and beautiful things of life - James F. Byrnes

Condolence From: Josh Quinton
Condolence: Sad to hear of Bob's passing. Bob was a gentleman with an infectious personality. He loved his family, a good time, sharing stories and helping others. He helped teach so many, I would guess many finished university or high school only because Bob cared about them. I did not know he was sick. I tried to see him on my visits back home from New York City. A man with a common name who was a unique gentleman and one of kind personality, I will miss him and hope there are more Bob Smith's out there helping and having fun as he did. Josh Quinton

Condolence From: Bill Rumsey
Condolence: I am deeply saddened to hear of Bob's passing. He was a very enthusiastic person, who could light up a room with his smile! It didn't take long to get to know him once I started working at CNA. We had many chats about fishing and he would often joke about the adventures of living with a house full of "women". Hold on to the memories.

Condolence From: Ian McMaster
Condolence: I first got to know Bob in the late 1990's. We had many long discussions with or without coffee. We rarely came to conclusions; it was the journey through the discussions that we enjoyed. Bob’s innate ability to genuinely help others made him a true professional person. Sadly, I lost contact with Bob since. Sincere condolences to all the Smith family at this time.

Condolence From: Todd Norman
Condolence: I extend my deepest sympathies and condolences to the family and close friends of Robert "Bob" Smith. Without question, the beginning success I enjoyed with my education at CNA was due to the kind support, guidance and advice provided to me by Bob Smith. I went on to pursue an associate's degree program at CNA-PPD. If I never had the privilege or pleasure of having Bob Smith as one of my instructors during my CAS program, I may have never have had the opportunity to pursue that program. My post secondary education would have never been possible without Bob's involvement in my life at that time. An outstanding instructor, a loving family man and without question, one of the greatest human beings you could have ever hoped to meet in your life. Safe travels to the other side, my friend. God Bless You.

Condolence From: Dave Pennell
Condolence: Elizabeth and Family Please accept my heartfelt condolences. I have known Bob about 50 years. It is sad to say goodbye to an old friend. I have many memories of our Thorburn Lake fishing trips and a game of golf at Terra Nova on the way home. One time Bob teed one up from the woods (Bob’s Rules) and I hit one from the fairway the same time. Our balls collided over the green and dropped down for an easy three putt. Very few people in the world can claim that feat.
